| What is a PDF
file?
A Portable Document Format (PDF) file is a self-contained
document that will look the same on every screen and in print, regardless
of what kind of computer, printer or software was originally used
to create it.
PDF files contain the complete formatting of the
original document, including fonts and images, but they are highly
compressed, allowing complex information to be downloaded easily.
Why does the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services use the PDF format?
PDF format provides an easy way to view or print
information including text, tables and graphics.
How to Download the software?
People using Windows, DOS, Macintosh, SUN, and the
UNIX system can view and print a PDF file using the free Acrobat
Reader® from the Adobe´s Web Site.

For help with downloading and installing the software,
see Adobe
Acrobat Reader
Troubleshooting Guide at Adobe's Web Site.
Adobe also has information about PDF and the visually
challenged.
How to View PDF Files?
With the Acrobat Reader software properly installed,
you can click on a link to a .pdf file and it will be loaded for
viewing on your computer. The file is a temporary file that will
be deleted when you exit your browser.
How to Print PDF Files?
To print Adobe Acrobat PDF files, use the print button
at the left end of the special Adobe Acrobat tool bar, which appears
immediately above the viewing window in the Acrobat Reader.
How to Save PDF Files?
To save the file after you have loaded it for viewing,
usually you select "File" then "Save As..."
from the menu bar. To save without viewing, move the cursor over
the link to the PDF file, hold down the shift key and click the
mouse, which should bring up the "Save As" window.
