What is the AVRS?
The AVRS is an automated toll-free customer service help line, which is available to answer child support questions in both English and Spanish, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. You may speak to a Customer Service Representative, however you may experience some delay. To minimize delays, please use the AVRS and only speak with a Customer Service Representative when absolutely necessary.
How can the AVRS be reached?
Dial 1-800-447-4278. If you have a teletypewriter (TTY) dial 1-800-526-5812. To access the AVRS, you must have an active child support case, your Social Security Number, and the date of birth of a child on the case.
What information is available from the AVRS?
- Information regarding payments processed by HFS.
- Account balance information.
- Income withholding information.
- Apply for child support services.
- Appointment information.
- Tax refund/other offset information.
- How to change your name/address.
- What to expect at a child support hearing.
- Information regarding the modification of an existing child support order.

How does the AVRS work?
When you call the AVRS you will be able to choose
whether to continue in English or in Spanish. For English,
press 1 and for Spanish, press 2.
You will be given four options from the Main
Menu:
Payment/Account Information/Apply for Services Option
For payment,
account balance, income withholding notice, and appointment date information, or how to apply for child support services, press 1.
Once you have pressed 1, listen carefully because
you will be given more options to choose from:
- For payment information, including
being transferred to the State
Disbursement Unit, press 1.
- For account balance information,
press 2.
- For information regarding the most
recent income withholding notice
served on this child support case,
press 3.
- For information regarding your next child support appointment, press 4.
- To apply for child support services, press 5.
State or Federal Government Employee Option
If you are a State or Federal government child support employee inquiring about an interstate case, press the # key.
Non-Custodial Parent Option
For information concerning a notice you received about your tax refund or other offsets from
HFS, or a notice you received from the Department of the Treasury,
or instructions on how to file an appeal of an account review,
press 2.
Once you have pressed 2, listen carefully because
you will be given more options to choose from:
- For information concerning the notice of a tax refund or other
offsets received from HFS, press 1.
- For information regarding a notice from the Department of Treasury
stating that your federal payment was reduced, press 2.
- For instructions on how to file an
appeal, press 3.
All Other Information Option
For all other information (how to change name/address, information on what to expect when
you go to a hearing regarding your child support case, information regarding the process for modification of a child support order, information regarding the income withholding process, information on voluntary acknowledgment of paternity) regarding your child support case, press 3.
Once you have pressed 3, listen carefully because
you will be given more options to choose from:
- For instructions on how to change
your name or address, press 1.
- For information on what to expect when you go to a hearing
regarding your child support case, press 2.
- For information regarding the process for modification of a child support order, press 3.
- For information regarding the income withholding process, press 4.
- For information on voluntary acknowledgment of paternity, press 5 .
